(5/3/2012) Resident professional theatre company Festival Stage of Winston-Salem will return to downtown’s Hanesbrands Theatre for its third season in 2012-13, presenting the Southern comedy The Last Night of Ballyhoo; North Carolina’s first production of the drama 33 Variations; and the Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Proof. The final production of the current season, Hatchetman, takes place May 11-27.

BWW Reviews: The General with Buster Keaton and Ethan Uslan on Piano - a Rare Treat

(4/20/2012) Last night it was raining and I was dreading the thought of going out, but I committed to meet friends…. I am so happy I did. I saw "The General" starring Buster Keaton, a silent 1926 film at Tate Hall at Central Piedmont Community College. It was a great silent film and stood up to time with the story of a train engineer, Keaton, his romance with a young woman, Marion Mack and his unorthodox entry into the civil war. Keaton was embroiled in nonstop action. He and Mack did all of their dangerous stunts with no stand-ins or green screens. The film though, had some special effects including a lightning strike and some innovative photography. I appreciate the advanced techniques for the time. They were using a crank 35mm camera.

(4/3/2012) The Carolina Actors Studio Theatre (CAST) in Charlotte, North Carolina will present the regional premiere of FLOYD COLLINS April 12-May 12, 2012. The musical by playwright Tina Landau and composer Adam Guettel is based on the true story of the heroic, but ultimately unsuccessful, struggle to free explorer Floyd Collins from a Kentucky cave in 1925. The tragedy was covered by newspapers throughout the United States for two weeks, and drew thousands of spectators to the remote rescue site, making it one of the most sensational news events of the early 20th century and inspiring one of the most unusual stage productions ever written.
